🌴 Florida Shelling: A Salty Soul’s Guide to Treasure Hunting by the Sea 🐚
"Shelling is more than a hobby—it’s a salty, sandy meditation on the beauty of nature."
If you’ve ever strolled along the shoreline and felt the thrill of spotting a seashell half-buried in the sand, you’re already a sheller at heart. Welcome to Florida Shelling, where every tide brings new treasures, and every shell has a story. From the shores of Sanibel Island to the coral-carved rocks of Blowing Rocks Preserve, we’re here to help you explore the art and adventure of beachcombing in the Sunshine State."
🌊 Why Florida?
Florida is one of the top shelling destinations in the world—and for good reason. Our subtropical waters and miles of coastline make the perfect home for an incredible variety of shells. We’ve got:
Lightning Whelks ⚡
Fighting Conchs 💪
Alphabet Cones 🔠
Olives (shiny, not snackable) 🫒
Angel Wings 😇
Shark’s Eyes 🦈👁️
And even fossilized shark teeth!
🐚 Fun Shell Facts!
The Lightning Whelk is one of the only shells that spirals to the left.
Olive shells are naturally shiny—no polish needed!
Many shells were once home to sea snails, mollusks, or hermit crabs.
You can tell a shell’s age by counting growth rings (like trees!).
Cone shells are beautiful but dangerous when alive—never pick up a live one.
